Tips for Alberta Teen Drivers when Driving to School

August 29th, 2013  |  Insurance

When teens get to the age where they can get a driver’s license, they no longer want to take the school bus or get driven to school by their parents, especially if they have access to a car. This is why we see high school students driving to school on a regular basis. Some schools accommodate teen drivers and others do not, something that you need to take into account before you start driving to school.

Even though driving to school may seem like no big deal, keep in mind that as a teen driver, you are still relatively inexperienced and need to put your full attention toward being a safe and effective driver, especially when driving in school zones.

Here are some important tips for Alberta teens that will be driving to school this year:

  • Know your schools rules about driving to school and parking on the school campus.
  • Make sure that you have the proper parking pass or have the money to pay for parking in a lot near your school.
  • Make sure that you get a good night’s sleep – Driving while tired in the morning can cause you to react slowly to situations while on the road.
  • Drive with caution as you approach your school. Other students, school buses, and other cars all need to share the road in a safe way.
  • Refrain from trying to show off to your friends.
  • Know that if you are going to drive your friends to school that you are responsible for them. Drive Safe!

What tips can you offer to teen drivers if they choose to drive to school this year?
