September Auto Sales Increase 3.7 Percent, Canada

October 2nd, 2015  |  Canadian Business

Demand for light trucks drove auto sales up by 3.7 percent last month compared to a year ago, making it the best September for the Canadian auto market on record.

DesRosiers Automotive Consultants reported that these sales are putting Canadian car companies on track for a potentially record setting year.

In total, consumers picked up a total of 174,337 light vehicles in September compared to the same month last year at 168,041.

Despite Canada’s economic and employment slump, auto sales remained strong in the third quarter with the leading auto makers bringing in big numbers.

Ford was in the lead for sales, capturing first place with 28,214 light vehicles being sold this September. General Motors followed with 24,090 and Fiat Chrysler coming in third with 24,067 cars and trucks sold.

“That being said, sales in the final quarter last year were extremely strong … so there are some tough comparables to beat,” DesRosiers said in a news release. “We remain cautiously optimistic.”
