RBC first Canadian bank to enable bill payments for Siri

July 31st, 2017  |  Canadian Business

Siri, the nebulous personal assistant and sometimes joke teller that inhabits Apple devices is now capable of paying your bills for you. Well, you still have to shell out the money for the bill, but if you're an RBC client, you will be able to ask Siri to transfer the funds from your account to the payee by using nothing but your voice.

The announcement, which also informs users they can transfer funds to peers using iMessage, was made in a release posted to News Wire Canada.

"By offering bill payments through Siri and P2P transfers through iMessage, we're providing more convenient solutions to support our client's payment needs," said Sean Amato-Gauci.

Paying your bills with Siri is reported to be a simple process. Users are required to provide a voice command for Siri to pay a bill. The user will then have to confirm the name of the payee from a list within the RBC app (the app is required for Siri to pay your bills). Once confirmation has been provided for the payee and the amount to be sent, the funds will automatically be transferred.

This latest method of electronic payment shows the financial industries continued investment in convenience and user experience. Canada's major banks have each introduced new methods for conducting transactions all geared around ease of use and simplicity. With the introduction of Siri bill payments, RBC provides the latest step in the convenience arms race.
