Man Breaks into Ranch House, Makes Himself at Home

October 3rd, 2015  |  Canadian Business

It wasn’t a typical burglary when Chris Hiscock broke into the Little Fort, BC, ranch home. He decided to stay awhile.

Hiscock, a 33 year old Nova Scotian man, was on a cross country trip when he ran out of money while touring British Columbia.

In desperation, Hiscock broke into the farm house. “He was hungry and he needed a roof over his head at the time,” his lawyer, Sheldon Tate, said.

But that wasn’t where it ended; Hiscock made himself at home and used the owner’s toothbrushes, did some laundry, and fed the livestock.

The man had even found a journal and wrote about his experiences.

“Today was my first full day at the ranch. I fed the cats and horses. So much I can do here I have to remind myself to just relax and take my time,” he wrote of his stay at the farm.

Hiscock’s dreams for his new home took a turn for the worst when the owner came home. “She found the accused in her home watching TV,” Mike Wong, Crown Counsel, reported.

Tate stated that his client fell victim to Canada’s sprawling geography and didn't have the funds to carry him through.

“He just unfortunately fell prey to the fact that Canada is 3000 miles from Nova Scotia to here,” Tate said. “His funds simply didn’t hold out and he…[had] to make choices and he didn’t make the right one’s necessarily. As far as bad choices are concerned, he could have done worse.”
