5 Things to do in Toronto this long weekend

August 4th, 2017  |  Travel

There is no shortage of things to experience during the summer months in the city, and as Civic Day long weekend marks the beginning of the end of summer, it is a great time to go out an explore what the city has to offer. Here are 5 suggestions of Toronto locales that you can hit up to make the most of your long weekend.

The classics – Rom, CN Tower, Ripley’s

The Toronto classics, such as the ROM, CN Tower, or Ripley’s Aquarium are always a fun weekend activity. New exhibits are always opening to keep the ROM interesting, and experiences like the CN Tower Edge-Walk are have added a kick to a classic Toronto activity. Whether you are a first time visitor to the city, or a long-standing resident who hasn’t experienced a Toronto staple in a while, it is a great long weekend option.

Trinity Bellwoods Park

If you are looking for something a little more low key for your long weekend, grab some friends, your dog, a few refreshments, and head on over to Trinity Bellwoods Park. Everywhere you look people are experiencing a different aspect of what the park has to offer, whether they are letting their dogs make some new friends at the dog park, slack lining between some trees, reading a book in the sun, or sharing a laugh with some friends.

Toronto Islands

Whether you are wanting to make your way to the Centerville Amusement Park, doing some kayaking or paddle boarding on the water, or are simply looking to view the city from a new angle, Toronto Islands is perfect place to head for the day. Even though the islands are just a ferry ride away, you are able to escape the hustle and busy of the city, and enjoy some time by the water.

Sugar Beach

Located across from the Redpath Sugar Refinery, Sugar Beach is a unique urban beach park along Toronto’s East Bayfront. You can settle yourself in on a muskoka chair, or a towel in the sand, and enjoy a peaceful day on the water. Corus Entertainment also shares the space so you can often experience Edge’s Sugar Beach sessions, featuring live music from local talent. And if you get a tad hungry or thirsty, there is plenty of room on the Against the Grain patio to enjoy a cold drink and share a few appetizers with friends.

Kensington Market

Designated as a National Historical Site, Kensington Market is a hub of multiculturalism in one of the older Toronto neighborhoods. With unique shops, galleries, cafés, bars, and restaurants, there is never a lack of things to see and experience in the market.

If there is still nothing tickling your fancy in the city, and staying in Toronto isn’t something you feel like doing this long weekend, take a drive out to one of Ontario's many provincial parks and try your hand at camping instead!
